The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, inaugurated the Malaysian Space Industry Corporation (MASIC) at MIGHT’s Pavilion in Langkawi during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2023. This industry-led platform, initiated by the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), aims to bring together local space industry players to work together towards developing the Malaysian space programme.
MASIC is represented by space industry stakeholders, promoting their expertise and competencies and encouraging collaborations among local and international authorities, clients, industry players, and stakeholders. In doing so, the corporation looks to co-create initiatives and projects in space and on the ground through strategic alliances between Malaysia and foreign companies, providing job opportunities and business prospects while expanding the space industry.
MASIC strives to create a thriving space industry ecosystem by positioning Malaysia as a leading player in the global space industry. The Space Industry is projected to contribute to Malaysia’s GDP by up to 1% or RM10 billion by 2030. This is outlined in the Malaysia Space Economy 2030 (MSE2030) and the Space Industry Strategic Plan (SISP).
Datuk Dr Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman, President and Chief Executive Officer of MIGHT, highlighted the importance for MASIC to unite local space industry players under a single platform, working closely towards developing the Malaysia Space programme. By doing so, we will be able to promote the development of the industry by representing members’ interests and promoting their core competencies and expertise. We are looking at co-creating more initiatives and projects in space and on the ground with an emphasis on empowering localisation and accelerating business opportunities and job creation, and eventually helping to develop other
industries as well.
The launch of MASIC by the Prime Minister at LIMA 2023 signifies the government’s unwavering commitment to the space industry’s growth and development as outlined in the MSE2030 and SISP, attracting investments, promoting innovation, and positioning Malaysia as a prominent player in the global space industry towards realising the Government’s aspiration of 1% or RM10 billion contribution to the national GDP from the space sector by the year 2030.
